Her niece Edith Marie McSwain Jenkins says she was in upper primary before she knew how the name was written. She also reports that she heard some members of the family pronounce it "LEE-gan."

Lillian Ethel Dumond Butler, age 87, died Sunday February 25, 2007. She was born January 29, 1920 in Ethel, Arkansas to Ira Eugene and Ethel Seamon Dumond. She was married to Clark Butler March 14, 1936. She wsa preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sons, Benjamin Eugene Butler and Kenneth Clark Butler and brothers Eugene, and an infant; sisters Alma Mae Cunningham, Bertie McSwain and Gertrude Butler.
Surviving her are two daughters, Ida Marilyn Lindsey of Ethel and Janis Kay Sollars and her husband, Tommy, of Bayou Meto, grandchildren: Tammy (Sam) DeBerry and Lisa (Robert) Franks of DeWitt, Denise Moss of St Louis MO, Justin (Dana) Sollars of Benton, Josh (Katie) Sollars of Bayou Meto, Kim (Bobby) Zimmerebner of Benton, Nia (Jason) Rieves of DeWitt, Tonya (Kyle) Franks and Tina (John) Phillips of North Little Rock, Tricia (Chris) Hopper of Little Rock.
Great grandchildren are Amber (Todd) Parr, Ashley DeBerry, Alicia (Zak) Jones, Lindsey (Eric) Simpson, Jennie Moss, Jessica (Jeremy) Smith, Caleb and Parker Sollars, Steven Zimmerebner, Suzanna and Jake Rieves, Olivia Phillips, Christian Franks, Ben, Bree and Blair Hopper, two great-great grandchildren, Zoe and Zane Parr. Her brother Ted (Nila) Dumond of DeWitt also survives her. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of DeWitt. She was an avid gardener, loved flowers and a pretty yard.

Lillian was a member of the First Methodist Church, DeWitt, Arkansas, at the time of her death. The funeral was held in this church on 27 February 2007, conducted by Rev LaVon Post. Interment was conducted by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt in Mt Pleasant Cemetery in Ethel, the community where she was born.
