    His obituary posted online has a dateline date of Sept 22, but no yearand newspaper name.  But the obituary tells us he died "at his hometoday."  The date of death is confirmed on his grave (reported in theFind-a-Grave memorial below), also giving the year, 1941.  In 1941, 22September was on a Thursday.  This tells us that the date of death, 22September 1941, was a Monday.  Thus when the obituary tells us thathis funeral and burial took place on Wednesday, we can report that theburial took place on 24 September 1941.

    He was born in Newport, TN on February 13, 1879, and moved with hisfamily to South Carolina to work in the textile mills. At his birth,he was not given a formal name. He did not receive his name until hewas young child. At that time, a photographer came to his home to takea family picture and asked him his name. He chose the name "JohnAllen."

    He was also a charter member of the Elizabeth Street Church of God inClinton, SC.  He is survived by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Hatley Gannand children: William Floyd Gann, Ola Gann, James Gann, He waspredeceased by two sons, J. Holbert Gann and George H. Gann.
