    "Tax records for 1846 show that T W (Thomas Walter) Quaid was aresident of New Salem in Rusk County.  He had an original land grantof 480 acres.  T W and his wife Emily Moore came from Brownsville,Mississippi, Lafayette County.  Upon arriving in Texas, they had fourchildren with them:  Benjamin Walter, Elihu (Eli Hugh), William Rileyand Simpson.  Emily's parents came with them.  Her father was Silas.Her mother's name has not been completely authenticated.

    "The movie actors, Randy and Dennis Quaid, are descended from Elihu'sbrother, Benjamin Walter.  The line runs:  Benjamin Walter, JohnThomas, William Jesse, and their father William Rudy."

    Mr. B.W. Quaid, father of J.T. Quaid died Friday at his home inDarwin. He was 83 years old and had been a resident since 1910. He wasborn in Hines Co. Mississippi in 1835 and moved to Texas in 1842. Mr.Quaid was an honorable wearer of the grey during the Civil War. Hemarried Miss Martha Lisibel in 1860. Burial will be in DarwinCemetery.

    Son of Thomas Walter Quaid. Great great grandfather of actors Dennisand Randy Quaid. On August 25, 1915, B. W. Quaid stated that he was 79years old and signed an affidavit that he knew E. H. Quaid, and thatE.H. Quaid was a confederate soldier in Walthers' Div. in 1862 and heserved until war closed. Another reference says he was born in HinesCo., Mississippi.
