- Carson is first reported in the census in 1870, when he is with his mother in the household of his stepfather, John W Miller. He is listed under his nickname Carcy. His surname, however, is reported as Miller, rather than Wallace. This error is corrected in the 1880 census. Carson's surname Wallace also appears in some records as Wallis.
