"Patented" some of the best 2,337 & 1/2 acres from his father-in-law along with his brother-in-law, Thomas Chew, who received a likewise amount. Named their sizable estate "Mount Pleasant." Died six months after moving onto the land at the age of 32, leaving Frances with the three children.
