  The 1900 census reports that Asenith's birthday was June 1872.  But her father fled prosecution in North Carolina in 1871 and was married in December that year, starting a whole new life with a new family in Virginia.  So this date is puzzling. The 1880 census shows her age as 8, which is still possible, since she could have been born before her father left in 1971.  If her birthday was in June, with the census date being June 1, then she would not have had her 9th birthday at census time in 1800.  I suspect her real birth year in 1871.  Family genealogies report her birthday to be 19 June 1871, confirming my analysis.

  The genealogy reports that Asenith was born in North Carolina, as does the 1880 census.  The 1900 census says it was South Carolina.
