Notes
- This Félicité (Felicity) does not appear in any of the Dumont/Dumond censuses I have found. The estate settlement of Félicité Caillot Dumont in 1862 names as one of the heirs an apparent granddaughter of Félicité Caillot Dumont named Felicite Pertuis. She is apparently a daughter of Louis and Félicité's named Felicite Brinsback.
The settlement record listing heirs includes "Francis Pertuis wife of John Pertuis" (read April 2008 in a posting on Dumont Discussion List on RootsWeb made by Ralph Dumond in 1999). Félicité Pertuis may be a sister of Francis who also married a Pertuis, or it may be the generational relationship has been misstated and she is Francis and John's daughter.
The article in the Grand Prairie Historical Society Bulletin (October 1980) cites other official records to clarify that this Felicite Brinsback (Brinsbac) is the daughter of a Felicite Dumond, who was the daughter of Louis and Felicity (Félicité) Dumond. This source indicates that Félicité, daughter of Louis and Felicity (also a form of Félicité), was born between 1810 and 1815. Thus she would have apparently been out of the house and not counted in the 1840 census. This makes it sound like Félicité is another name for Francis. But it could be another daughter we have not been otherwise able to document.
This is how the bulletin article summarizes the evidence:
"Felicite Dumond b 1810-1815, living 18 Jan 1848 when an agreement between Felicity Dumond and Reyes and Israel Dumond identifies Felicite Brinsback and Virginia Dumond as sisters of the 2nd part and the party of the 1st part as the mother of Felicite Brinsback and Virginia Dumond; d before 1862 partition, m ___ Brinsbac."
-- "Some Descendants of Marie Messagier," Grand Prairie Historical Society Bulletin (October 1980), http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/DUMONT/1999-06/0929491890
We can estimate that Felicity Dumond Brinsback was married about 1830 (based on birth in 1810-15, as most girls were marrying about age 17-20. Perhaps her daughter Felicite was born around 1831-35. Francis married John Pertuis. who was stil unmarried when he was reproted as the head of his mother's home in 1860 at Arkansas Post. Perhaps they married shortly after that, maybe around 1865. I have found no further information (by early April 2014) to specify further the details for Felicity and her husband or thier daughter Francis and her husband John Pertuis.
