The report is somewhat confusing at first, reporting that John was"mustered out on 31 Aug 1864."  However, this is the date of hisdeath, so he was "mustered out" by death.  His death in the war isprobably one reason we find his son John H Keith in the home of hismother's parents.  John is in the home of James A Whittemore and hiswife Melinda, the parents of his mother Sonora.  Note that somesources, including family genealogies, spell her family name asWhittamore.
