Notes

  • A listing for a John B Keith appears to refer to this John B Keith, born in 1829.  The report says he did not survive the war, which matches with the date of death of John in 1864.  John is recorded as joining the Confederate Army in 1861.

The report is somewhat confusing at first, reporting that John was "mustered out on 31 Aug 1864."  However, this is the date of his death, so he was "mustered out" by death.  His death in the war is probably one reason we find his son John H Keith in the home of his mother's parents.  John is in the home of James A Whittemore and his wife Melinda, the parents of his mother Sonora.  Note that some sources, including family genealogies, spell her family name as Whittamore.
