- Mary Elizabeth is the daughter of Elizabeth Gentry Sorey, who was married before she married Isaac Sorey. A couple of genealogies record Mary's surname as Foster. In the 1860 census, it appears more like Fosler, as there is no cross on the consonant. Supporting evidence indicates that Elizabeth's first husband was named Foster. In the 1860 census, Elizabeth's parents are living in Cooke County, Texas, and in their household is a 7-year-old Mary Foster.
