Notes

  • Day familly sources, reflected in Jimmie Epperson's genealogy, and reported in Harold Christian's Jenkins Family History, report the husband of Nancy Ann Taylor as Joseph Day.  The 1850 census for Nancy and her family report her husband as F W Day.

    1850 Federal Census, Attala County, Mississippi, 6 September, Township 13 R 5 E, page 22 (scan 107), Hse/Fam # 180
    F W Day  25 M [no occupation given] Mississippi
Nancy An Day  23 F Mississippi
    Joseph R Day  1 M Mississippi

In the 1860 census, Nancy Day appears without a husband, but that census does not report marital status or family relationship.  A daughter appears, but the son Joseph who was 1 year old in 1850, is missing so presumed to have died between the censuses.  Nancy Ann is specifically reported as a Widow in the 1900 census.

1860 Federal Census, Cass County, Texas, 17 October, PO Unionville & Cusseta, Beat 3, Page 72, Hse #483, Fam #495
    Day, Nancy A 35 F W b MS [b abt 1825]
    Day, L E   9 F W b MS [b abt 1851]

The 1850 report of Mississippi as the birth state of F W Day matches the 1880 census reprot of Mississippi as the birthplace of the father of Daniel H Day, Nancy's son.  But also consider that in 1880 Daniel was 18, meaning he was born in about 1862.

But Nancy had no husband reported in the census, only herself and her daughter 9-year-old L E Day.  I have found no 1870 census for Nancy and her children.
