Notes

  • In 2008, reporting information from Tucker family records, Jessie McPherson Jenkins wrote of G W Tucker:
"He married (1) R A Bostwick. She was born abt 1854 in AR."

The name is known in Tucker family records as R A Bostwick.  By late September 2010, the only public record I had found for R A Bostwick Tucker was the 1880 census, where she is reported as R A Tucker.  Then I received some information referencing additional sources.

    R A Bostwick (Bostic)
Charlotte Parker added this on 27 Sep 2010
"R.A. is my paternal gggrandmother (her first son Joe T. Parker, is my grandfather). I have not been able to find death record or burial on her, so this info on when George W. Tucker remarried is helpful. Her name is shown as Roseanna Bostic in 1870 US Census ...."

The initials R A could be for Rose Ann or Rose Anna.  After receiving this message I found the Ancestry transcription of the marriage record:

The 1870 census reports a daughter Roseanna Bostic, which seems to match our R A Bostwick, with her parents in Pulaski County.

There are numerous other Bostic families in Vilonia and Cypress Townships of Faulkner County:  marriage records, censuses, and other records.  These seem to be from the same lineage as Roseanna's family.  This may mean the original spelling of their name was Bostic.  It could mean the original Bostwick was simplified to Bostic.

In 1871, Roseanna married Taylor Parker in Pulaski County, Arkansas.

In the 1880 census, R A Bostwick is reported with her second husband George Washington Tucker.  The two initials R A could have been taken by the 1880 enumerator for two names -- as we sometimes find on censuses, and in her marriage record above -- where the original was understood by the family as one double name.

This census record reveals that she had been married first to a man name Parker.  The oldest child in the household is J T Parker, age 5.  From this age we can estimate that Roseanna married Mr Parker about 1874.  A very interesting feature of this census entry is that R A is listed first, but the House and Family numbers are on George's line.

Even though she is listed first, R A is Keeping House and George is a Farmer.  Neither she nor George have a designation as Head or any other relation, but the others in the household are reported in their relation to R A, not George!

Tucker Researcher Linda Matchett reports the Parker son as Joe T Parker:  "all I have on Joe T. Parker is his birth about 1875."  She provides the following information about the two Tucker children here.

    ---------------------------------------------------
George & Roseanna Bostwick Tucker's children are:

    1) G. Frank Tucker (I would think the G. was George, but never saw it as such), born Mar 28 1878 in Cross Co. AR, died Aug 19 1903 in Shawnee, OK. It's not in my notes, but I'm sure I've heard he was struck by lightning, causing his death. He was in the 1880 census, Bedford twp, Cross Co. AR in the home of his father George W. Tucker, shown as G. T. Tucker, age 2.

    2) J. M. Tucker, born Dec 6 1879 in Cross Co. AR; in 1880 census in Bedford twp., Cross Co., AR in home of his father, age 6 months; died as an infant.
