Rachel's husband William died before the 1850 census. No death record has been found. She was living with her widowed mother and enumerated enumerated under her maiden name.

In 1861, Rachel's mother passed away. In the 1870 census, there was a John Wilson in her household. The census page is very faded and it is hard tomake out manby detrails. The name is even unclear, but is transcribed by Acnestry as John. They have the age as 4, but it looks like it could be 14 or 24. No occupatoin is reported. Rachel had a son named John Wilson, but he would have been born before 1850, so should have been over 20 in 1870. And none of her children were in her household in 1850 or 1860. This John Wilson is the only other person in Rachel's household.

Glenn Lowery in his genealogy reports the death date for Rachel as 4 Jan 1869. This clearly is not our Rachel's date of death. Her memorial on Find a Grave says Jun 1880. The memorial has no photo of the stone.
