Notes
- Berrymond's name is spelled various ways. We find it as Berryman in the Hamrick Family information. In the 1910 census of Cleveland County, it was spelled Beryman. (Page 182A). Burial Information also lists his name as Berryman.
In 1850, the first census where he was listed, his name is Benjamin.

William McSwain 44 M Baptist Preacher $150 Real Estate born North Carolina
Judith McSwain 41 F born North Carolina
Benjamin [Berryman?] McSwain 8 M born North Carolina
In 1860, they list him as Berryman.
1860 Federal Census, Cleveland County, North Carolina, 13 August, page 132-3, Hse/Fam #955
Wm McSwain 54 M Baptist Minister $300 Real Estate $1030 Personal born North Carolina
Judith McSwain 41 F born North Carolina
Berryman McSwain 18 M Cripple born North Carolina
We also learn from this that he is crippled. I have found no further details to explain what this means, or whether this is the result of an accident or if he was crippled from birth. This may be one reason Berryman never married.

In 1900 he is enumerated under the name Berry and is still unmarried. His widowed sister Mary Lovelace is living in his household. There are several nieces and nephews, but they don't appear to be from the same family. Note that Lula and both her parents were born in South Carolina, whereas the parents of the others were both born in North Carolina.

Three of these children aer the children of Berry and Mary's sister Judith Margaret McSwian dn her husband Reuben McSwain. These three are William, Pantha and Elijah. I cannot identify the other two child Lula among the children of any of Berry's and Mary's brothers. Note that the last individual in the family record is Lucy McSwain, a black cook for the family.
Three other McSwain families are enumerated on the same page. Next door to Berry is his brother Elijah and wife Susannah McSwain, and next door to them the Head of household is named Doctor A C McSwain, whom I have not identified, and his wife Nancy C and their children. A couple of doors farther away iws David A McSwian with his wife Nancy.
