Notes

  • In the 1910 census James Martin's first wife Rennie was reported as 28years old, and they had been married for 6 years.  Their marriagerecord found later (see below) reports they had actually been marriedabout 5 1/2 years, married in January 1905.  Their two daughters were4 years and 1 year old.

Rennie died about 1916 or 1917.  In her daughter Ollie's SocialSecurity records, Ollie's mother is reported as Rellie Moore, givingus her maiden name as well as another form of her first name.Confirmation of the apparently correct form of her mother's name camewhen a search under Rellie Moore brought up a marriage record.  Relliemay be a nickname for Cinderella.  One wonders how the enumeratorheard Rennie for Rellie.

A family researcher commented on this record in Ancestry.com that thefamily name should have been Lance.  Martin was James Lance's middlename.

"James Martin Lance rather than James Martin.  The original data onthe record is incorrect."

Based on information from my research, a Find a Grave memorial managerestablished a memorial for Rellie.  The place of death, however, wasreported as Gilmer County, while family residence information seemsto indicate it was more likely Pickens County.  They were living inPickens County in 1918 when James registered for the draft.  James wasstill there in 1920 when the census was taken.  Years of birth anddeath are approximate but very close, based on other family factors.James married Bonnie Cowart in September 1918.
