Notes

  • Nora's name appears with many different spellings in public documentsand family sources.  We find Nora, Norah, Elnora, Elnorah, Ellnorah, and maybe some other variations.

Nora was likely born in Stonewall County, Texas.  Barnett researcherBarbara Stevens reports on records showing her father Francis Marionmoved from Hill to Stonewall County in the 1880s.  This also tells usthat her mother did not die until after 1891.  I have not yet found anentry in the 1900 census for Norah and her father Francis MarionBarnett.  The 1910 census there tells us that Francis was a widow andthat Nora (Elnora Ethyl) was 19, meaning she was born about 1891.  Thereported age of 29 in the 1920 census is consistent with this.

Barnett, Myrtle Dau  F W 23 Single TX NC IL Farm Laborer
Barnett, Nora Dau  F W 19 Single TX NC IL Farm Laborer

By 1920, Norah has married but is still living in her father'shousehold with her older unmarried sister Mollie Priscilla.  We alsofind that in this census, her father is reported as an invalid and nolonger as a Farmer.  Since their first child is only 1 month old, Noraand her husband Robert Hudson have probably been married less than oneyear.

Next door to this mixed family in 1920 is what appears to be Robert'sfather and his second wife.  The ages would fit for 24-year-old Robertto be the oldest child of Bill L Hudson.  The next child in Bill'shousehold is 13-year-old Bill E.  Of course, there may be otherchildren already married and not living nearby.

Hudson, Olif A Son M W 3  TX TX TX
Hudson, Geniva A  Dau  F W 16 TX TX TX
Hudson, Sadie M  Dau  F W 9 TX TX TX

From the ages of Bill and his presumed son Robert in the house nextdoor, Lara is Bill's second wife.  This pattern of relationships seemsconfirmed when we find a 3-year old child, Olif (Olaf?) A as the nextchild after 9-year-old Sadie M, who followed 13-year-old Bill E.

In 1930, we find that Robert and Nora have moved to Cochise County,Arizona, near Douglas, where Robert and all the neighbors on thiscensus page are working at a lime quarry.  Since their son Lamont wasborn in 1930, they moved to Arizona in late 1922 or later.

Note that in the 1930 census, Nora and both her parents are reportedas born in Oklahoma!

Living next door to them are the Beauford family we found living withthem in 1920.  I have not yet figured out the relationship betweenthese two families.
