--------------------------
In his later years, Andrew had problems with Cancer, overcoming one bout, but continued in weak health, with hospitalization for several problems. In 2019, he had an operation for lung cancer in 2013 and almost succumbed. Andrew spent some time with his daughter Laura in Colorado, going out there form Oklahoma in early 2018. He also became ill there, with pneumonia, it is thought, and was in hospice there for some time. He finally recovered well enough to return to Oklahoma in about August 2019.
He attended a family reunion in Lindsay, Oklahoma, in September 2019, accompanied by his brother and his caregiver Jerry Farris, a friend of about 40 years. Andrew had stayed with Jerry when he had been sick in the past. Jerry lives across the street from Andrew's parents' home in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, where Andrew lived after his parents died.
Andrew had a tumor removed from his intestines in November 2019, but began having a blockage in his throat and it was discovered in mid-November 2019 that this was because of inoperable cancer throughout his body. He was in the hospital, then hospice and was shortly put in ICU again and on 22 November, life support other than oxygen was removed and he said his goodbyes to his children by phone.
Andrew died a little before 4 PM at the Ada Hospital after surgery, followed by other complications, then by discovery of inoperable cancer throughout his body. His brother James Royce Spann was with him and passed the word to waiting family members in several states.
No final memorial service or funeral was held. His brother James Royce Spann and his caregiver and friend Jerry were with him at the end in the hospital in Ada, Oklahoma. His body was cremated.
