A memorial on Find a Grave for Richard M Shrewsberry seems to match Bertha Edmonds Shrewsberry's husband Richard Martin Shrewsberry. The date of death there, with a photo of the gravestone, is actually 27 December 1962. The SS Death Index reports only January 1963, so apparently they were not notified of the exact date, but got word in January 1963.

The funeral was held before 4 January, when Bertha published a statement of thanks in the Beckley, West Virginia, newspaper.

"Cards of Thanks
"I desire to express to my kind neighbors and thoughtful friends my heartfelt thanks for their many expressions of sympathy during the death [sic] of my beloved husband, Richard Martin Shrewsberry. I especially wish to thank Dr Paul Vaughn, the staff of the Raleigh General Hospital, the postal workers, the Rose and Queensberry Funeral Home and those who sent flowers, food, or helped in any way.

The only wife reported on the memorial for Richard M Shrewsberry is one Viola M. Cooper-Shrewsberry-Lilly. His memorial has no mention of a wife named Bertha. But Viola died in 1956, and Richard married Bertha in 1960. Bertha apparently had never married before, since the marriage record reports her last name as Edmonds.
