- David Howell Green and his wife Nancy Hamrick are ancestors of Earl Scruggs, the famous mountain music (bluegrass) musician. There are some differences in the death dates reported. Some sources report he lived his whole life in Cleveland County (formerly Rutherford County), North Carolina. Others report he died in Virginia. The latter may be due to a confusion of two similar individuals.
A date for death is 1822. Some sources report he moved to Virgina and died there in 1863. The Hamrick Family Data pages report he died on 28 July 1863, in Mt Jackson, Shenandoah County, Virginia. It is possible that there are two persons confused here in the entry for David Howell Green or David Hamrick Green.
I have been unable to find any independent information, however, that confirms a separate person named David Hamrick Green. Some sources say David Hamrick and some say David Howell.
The 1860 census reports a David H Green married to Nancy Green. These names match David Howell Green, son of John Elias Green and Judith Moore McSwain, and his wife Nancy Hamrick, daughter of James Moore Hamrick and Mary Green.

David Howell Green (1824-1863) is a descendant of One of Joseph Green (1797-1883). David are reported in Family Tree DNA in the same Y-DNA12 marker group as Meshack W Green (1720-1799). They are listed in the Family Tree Geen-Greene DNA Project under R1b1a2a1a1b3c, as relatives of Thomas F and Winifred (Seybourne) Green, St Mary's, Maryland.

The parents of Joseph Green have not been confirmed. The parents of Meshack W Green, likewise, have not been discovered. Thus their connection to Thomas F Green is not known. Another member of this kinship group, named Thomas Norton Green, born about 1500, shares the R-L2 haplogroup of DNA with Meshack W Green in this same Y-DNA12 kinship group. These two are the only ones of this haplogroup who are reported in this list of relatives of Thomas F and Winifred (Seybourne) Green. David Howell Green has a different haplogroup, R-M269.
