Notes
- Family sources report that Mattie Sledge died in 1895. This is the year her daughter Birdie was born, so she may have died in childbirth. In her marriage record in Hunt County, Texas, in July 1887, her husband was named I F Gilbert. He is reported as Isaac in the 1900 census and as Frank in the 1910 census, giving us his two names.
In the 1900 census, Isaac Gilbert, later more commonly known as Frank Gilbert, has been married one year to his new wife Margaret for only 1 year, indicating they married in 1898 or 1899. This ccensus gives us the names of There is a stepson in the household, indicating this is the second marriage for Margaret, and thus for Gilbert, since there are older children in the household.
