    Robert Hezekiah Mullinax
Birth Jan. 7, 1843 Kings Mountain Township, York County, South Carolina
Death Jul. 22, 1903 Jasper, Pickens County, Georgia

Robert Hezekiah Mullinax joined the Confederate States of America May 10, 1862.  He joined the 36th Regiments Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Company L (Pickens County, GA.) along with three of his brothers James J., Benson J., and Marion Francis and Robert's brother-in-law John McIntyre.  They assembled in Dalton, GA. during the winter of 1861-1862.  Their Company served first in Tennessee, then Mississippi where it was part of T.H. Taylor's Brigade, Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana.

It fought at Champion's Hill and Vicksburg, where it surrendered July 4, 1863.  After being exchanged (an unusual event of more modern day wars) the Regiment was brigaded under General Cummings and fought with the Army of Tennessee from Chattanooga to Nashville, The Atlanta Georgia Campaign and the Carolina's Campaign.  In January 1865 it was consolidated with the 56th Georgia Regiment.

As originally organized, the Regiment had 930 men.  It suffered 43 casualties at Chattanooga and reported 267 men and 213 arms in December of 1863.  When it consolidated (in which the three brothers had rejoined after surrender at Vicksburg) 232 men were present for duty.  Only a handful of the men surrendered on April 26, 1865.
