David J Hays
Father: Elijah Hays
Mother: Mary Weaver
Birth 1826 GA
At least one genealogy have his full name as David Joseph Hayes/Hays, filling out the common J middle initial. I have not found a documentation for this full name. This name makes sense from his father's name, the same with an added Elijah as the first name: Elijah David Joseph Hayes.
David Joseph Hayes

One, however, reports his full name as David Jacob Hayes. No source documentation is provided. There are several others like this, that appear to have copied each other on this, so we cannot rely on these as valid sources. I have seen no other instance of Jacob as a name in this famly line. Note also that the folloiwng genealogy reports that David died in Tennessee. The last record I have found for him was stil in Habersham Cuonty, Georgia, in the 1900 census. It seems unlikely he would have moved to Tennessee at that late date. It is probably a confusion with another David Hayes/Gilreath, name sometimes spelled Hayze, in Anderson County, Tennessee from before the 1850 census.
