Myrtis was one of several children of Daniel H. & Cora Richey Day. She married Wilmer Vernon Jenkins on August 16, 1932 in Takoma Park, MD. The couple lived in Takoma Park for several years and later moved to Kilmarnock, VA. Myrtis became a widow on June 21, 1955 when Wilmer was killed in an airplane crash. Myrtis lived in Kilmarnock for awh ile after Wilmer's death, but she along with her son Wayne eventually moved to California. It was in Loma Linda, CA. where she met E. J. Black, and on January 7, 1967 they were married in the home of a friend in Alexandria VA. Myrtis and E. J. lived in Loma Linda until their deaths. Myrtis and Wilmer have two children, Wilmyrna Lou Jenkins Smith and Wayne Vernon Jenkins, Sr.
