Notes

  • Terry Smith Escamillo is a Smith Forrester Descendant I have worked with on this family.  Terri has posted several photos and found family information on Epheham and his siblings.  On one photo with his brothers, Epheham is referred to as Eaf.  Another with him and his wife at a young age his name is written as Ef.

In the 1900 census  this child's name was written as Epheham, and this is what all the genealogies have.  It appears the intended name was the biblical name Ephraim.  We have found no entry for Ef in the 1910 or 1920 censuses.  Int he 1930 census his name is somewhat faded, but definitely has no second H in it.  It looks like Ephram, which is the way many people pronounce the name Ephraim.

    Smith, Amanda Wife W F Oct 1866  33 Married 18 yrs 13 children/9 living GA NC NC
Smith, Epheham Son W M  Oct 1890  9 Single GA GA GA

No child appears in the 1910 census with this name.  The child David would match by age.  But genealogies seem to match David with John David, referred to as Dave.  One discrepancy seems to bring that into question.  John D is reported in the 1900 census as born in May 1889, but David is reported as 19 years old in April 1910, matching the birth of Epheham in Oct 1890.  We are cautioned, however, that the birth years reported in the 1900 are notoriously wrong.

Ef is recorded in the 1930 census under the name Ephran.

Ef's age here would make him born in about 1893, instead of 1890 as the 1900 census said.

I have been able to find no documentation on Epheham's death. Some genealogies have the details, but provide no documentation.
