They are still int eh same locaiton for the 1940 census. Carrie is a cook and dishwasher in a cafe. Their entry and the next family, a 54-year-old man and his wife named Hawthorne, have lines through them like they were entered in error. No explanation is given on this page for this marking. Howver, the last page of this census has a duplicate entry for these two hosueholds, indicating that for some reason they were moved.

No documentation for that fact is provided, but they appears to be representing famliy information. But that information matches the death and burial record of an individual of that married name who was born in Missouri.
