• A few genealogies identify this Nancy McSwain as the daughter of John McSwain and Judith Moore.  But I have not found any documentation of the relationship.  I have thought this may be a misplacement in these genealogies of Lavinia Nancy McSwain, daughter of William McSwain and Mary Nancy Bridges, who also married a Wiley Padgett.
  
  However, the identity seems to be based on grave information for a Nancy Padgett, whose gravestone reports her as the wife of Wiley Padgett.  Lavinia Nancy McSwain Padgett and her husband Wiley moved to Arkansas with their whole clan.
  
  Nancy Padgett is buried in the McSwain Cemetery is southern Cleveland County, North Carolina, close to the South Carolina border.  Lacking other information in the few genealogies that account for her, it would appear the reason her maiden name is thought to be McSwain is because she was buried in the old McSwain Cemetery
  
  I have not been able to further identify her husband Wiley Padgett.  A burial record for the McSwain Cemetery, compiled by W D Floyd in 1997, and posted on North Carolina GenWeb, reports her as the wife of William Padgett.
  
  A photo of the gravestone, however, appears to say "consort of Wilie," which would be Wiley, not William.This cemetery also has a record for a child of William named Sarah who died at age 7 in 1859.  The gravestone reports her as the daughter of W & L Padgett.  No record is found in this cemetery for this William Padgett or any Wiley Padgett.

  t would make sense that her husband was named William Wiley Padgett.  It may also be that the name Wiley was confused with the name William in either this record or some genealogies.  Both these names are very common in this line of Padgetts, and in the McSwain lineage.
  
  Various Padgetts married McSwains in North Carolina, and representatives of the lines moved to Arkansas where descendants of both names still live today in Prairie Township, Arkansas County.

  But information on this person in genealogies also includes another burial record in Boiling Springs Cemetery in Cleveland County, for a Nancy McSwain.  This means that Nancy McSwain either was unmarried or McSwain was her married name.  So these two need to be sorted out.
