Notes

  • A few genealogies identify this Nancy McSwain as the daughter of JohnMcSwain and Judith Moore.  But I have not found any documentation ofthe relationship.  I have thought this may be a misplacement in thesegenealogies of Lavinia Nancy McSwain, daughter of William McSwain andMary Nancy Bridges, who also married a Wiley Padgett.  However, theidentity seems to be based on grave information for a Nancy Padgett, whose grvestone reports her as the wife of Wiley Padgett.  LaviniaNancy McSwain Padgett and her husband Wiley moved to Arkansas withtheir whole clan.

Nancy Padgett is buried in the McSwain Cemetery is southern ClevelandCounty, North Carolina, clsoe to the South Carolina border.  lackngother information in the few genealogies that account for her, I guessthe reason her maiden name is thought to be McSwain is because she wasburied in the old McSwain Cemetery.

I have not been able to further identify her husband Wiley Padgett.Various Padgetts married McSwains in North Carolina, andrepresentatives of the lines moved to Arkansas where descendants ofboth names still live in Prairie Township, Arkansas County.

I have not yet found any information on any children.

But information on this person in genealogies also includes anotherburial record in Boling Springs Cemtery in Cleveland County, for aNancy McSwain.  This means that Nancy McSwain either was unmarried orMcSwain was her married name.  So these two need to be sorted out.
