Mary R. Rooke
Mary Lois Rice Rooke, 67, 108 E. 5th Avenue, Watauga, died Friday, October 31, 2003, amongst family and friends.
She was born September 17, 1936, in Sunflower County, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Madison J. and Mary Jolliffee Rice. She and her immediate family moved to East Tennessee in 1973, where she has graced the lives of everyone who came to know her.
Mary worked at the Johnson City Eye Clinic for more than 30 years. Her dedication, strength and determination will be greatly missed, yet live on through those she touched.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Elizabethton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret R. Freeman, and a brother, Luther S. Rice.
Survivors include her husband, Jim; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jennifer Lois Rooke, Washington, D.C. and Mary Courtney Stark, her husband, John Stark, and granddaughter, Mary Delaney, all of Clemmons, N.C.; her oldest sister, Eunice Hayles and her nephew, John Winston Hayles, III, both of Mississippi.
Family members and friends are requested to pay their respects Sunday, November 2, from 2-4 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Elizabethton.
Her funeral service will follow at 4 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Brent Seals. For those who wish, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Johnson City Eye Clinic Foundation, 222 E. Unaka Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37601 or The Circle of Hope Foundation, Regional Cancer Center, c/o Sarah Orsbon, 400 N. State of Franklin Road, Johnson City, TN 37604.
