W.T. Jenkins, one of Odessa's oldest and best citizens passed awayyesterday morning. He had been ill for years. His funeral will be heldSaturday morning [Dec. 15, 1928] at the Methodist Church.

Missouri Ledger, Odessa, Missouri, Dec. 21, 1928

As one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and his down topleasant dreams, W.T. Jenkins, fell asleep the morning of Dec. 13th,to wake on earth no more.  He was born near Louisville, Kentucky, May3, 1854, and when a little lad came with his parents to Waverly,Lafayette County, Missouri and spent the rest of his life here.

On Oct. 29, 1878, he was married to Miss Anna Richardson and sevenchildren came to bless the home. Three died in early infancy and fourto bring joy and pride to the hearts of the parents, who had lived fortheir church and their children, and then Clyde, their youngest born, died while away at college.

For 43 years Mr. Jenkins and his family have lived in Odessa, wherethe father united with the M.E. Church South, and has been a devotedmember ever since, seldom missing a service until compelled by the illhealth that befell him a number of years ago.

Mr. Jenkins was a loyal member of the I.O.O.F. for many years and aregular attendant until his ill health deprived him of the privilege. He was a man of quiet dignity attending to his own business, his wholeheart centered on his home, his family and his church.  Few parentshave equalled Mr. & Mrs. Jenkins in their single-hearted efforts forthe advancement of their family.

After a friendship of nearly 40 years we feel it safe to say that apurer, cleaner, religious life was never spent before the people ofOdessa than that of W.T. Jenkins.

His years of illness have brought universal sympathy and now that hehas entered into eternal rest his memory will be cherished, withtender respect.  His death came unexpectedly from the infirmatives[infirmities] of old age, critical illness lasting only a few hours.

A very beautiful funeral service for him was held at his churchSaturday morning [Dec. 15, 1928], with his pastor in charge. Theburial was in Odessa Cemetery.

His wife, with whom he had spent a little more than a half-century ofhappiness, a daughter, Pearl; two sons, Forrest and Festus, survivehim. Also three little grandsons.
