  • Lola Mae Childers Fisher, 80, of 109 Lamplighter Cove, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at her residence.  Surviving in addition to her husband are four sons, Jack Edward McSwain, Earnest Paul McSwain, Thomas Rudolph Fortner and Larry Dean McSwain, all of Hickory, N.C.; a stepson, Johnny Evoid Fisher of Fallston, N.C.; a sister, Thelma Hodge of Gaffney; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

    Jack Edward McSwain

    Conover, N.C. - Jack Edward McSwain, 63, of Conover, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.  Born Oct. 18, 1944, in Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Jack Osborne McSwain and the late Lola Mae Childers McSwain. Mr. McSwain was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in Vietnam.

    In addition to his parents, a son, Jay Lenker, preceded him in death. He is survived by wife, Peggy Philips McSwain of the home; two sons, Arthur Lenker of Kingsport, Tenn., and Joseph Edward McSwain of Lincolnton; daughter, Jacqueline Childers of Claremont; three brothers, Ernest McSwain, Larry McSwain and Thomas Fortner; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

    The funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton, with Pastor Tim Shook officiating.  Burial will follow in Conover City Cemetery.

    The family will receive friends from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday at Burke Mortuary in Newton, prior to the service.
