    -----------------------
    Mattie Kathryn "Kathy" Gregory Burnette
    Birth Sep 20, 1939, USA
    Death Feb 23, 2016, USA

Mattie Kathryn "Kathy" Burnette - age 76 of Knoxville passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 23, 2016. She was the absolute best mother to her children and a wonderful grandmother. Her family was the most important thing in her life and their lives will be forever touched by her.

Kathy helped start a very successful family business over 30 years ago and was a very savvy business woman. She was a lady that was very involved in her community. She was instrumental in getting a PTA started at Halls Elementary School in the late 60's and later helping to establish a medical clinic at the Halls Middle School. More recently she was a member of the Halls Cross Roads Women's League since its inception, many years ago. Kathy and her husband Tom were strong supporters and sponsors of The Fantasy of Trees and Children's Hospital.

As her daughter became interested in playing youth softball, she started coaching and became very successful, but most importantly she was a mentor to young girls. Her two sons also were active in sports and she never missed a game all the way through their college playing days. Her love and support of her children naturally flowed through to her grandchildren. She didn't miss a single game as her grandson played multiple sports and most notably as he became a very successful quarterback, ultimately landing him at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Her oldest granddaughter was the absolute light of her life. They were inseparable, from the day she was born until the day Kathy passed. One of her proudest moments was being with her granddaughter when her great grandson, Luke, was born. Her youngest granddaughter lovingly shares her name. She was very precious to her and she loved watching her dance and play volley ball. She supported her by her presence at all of her activities. Preceded in death by her parents Lester and Zella Gregory, sisters Eleanor and Louise and brother David.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years Thomas M. Burnette, Sr., sons Tommy Burnette, Jr. and wife Terri and Jerry Burnette and wife Michele, daughter Julie Anne Burnette Kirkpatrick, son-in-law Stan Kirkpatrick, grandchildren Elle Marie Burnette, Brent Thomas Burnette and Anna Kathryn Kirkpatrick, great-grandson Luke Parker Burnette, sisters Gladys, Edrys and Claudia. Brothers Sammy and Raymond and Special friend Ryann Aken.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. John Acker for the care he has provided. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mattie "Kathy" Burnette Memorial, Halls Cross Roads Women's League, PO Box 70785, Knoxville, TN, 37938.

The Burnette family will receive friends Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 5-7pm at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home with a Funeral Service to follow at 7pm.

Family and friends will meet Sunday in the Lynnhurst Cemetery at 1:15pm for a 1:30pm interment service. Friends may leave their condolences at www.berrylynnhurst.com
