On Sept. 20, 1880, at about 5 o'clock p.m., our late friend andtownsman, Dr. Samuel T. EAST received the final summons, and passedfrom the cares of corrupt and sinful world and entered the land ofeternal rest. His health had been failing for several months, thoughof late had somewhat improved, up to the morning of the day he died, when he was attacked with slight hemorrhage of the lungs, which causedbut little alarm at the time. About 5 o'clock in the afternoon, however, he was seized by a fit of coughing, followed by hemorrhage, from which he expired in less than 10 minutes.

Dr. EAST was born Nov. 7, 1842, and would have been 38 years old hadhe lived until the 7th of next month. He was raised by hisgrandfather, Jonah MORRIS. He studied medicine with Dr. D. T. Waddy, formerly of this place, graduating at the St.Louis(Pope's) MedicalCollege in March 1868 and commenced the practice of medicine with hisfather, Dr. EAST, of Clarenda, Iowa, where he continued in thepractice for a year or so, and then returned to Troy, where he hassince resided.

He was married to Miss Lou WHEELER on the 21st of May 1868; gave upthe practice of medicine and engaged in the drug business the sameyear, which he followed successfully to the time of his death. Heleaves a wife and three children of tender years, besides many warmand admiring friends to mourn his untimely demise, who have theunfeigned sympathy of the entire community in this their sadbereavement and greatest trial of human heart.
