Notes
- Frances usually is found with the middle initial M. Two genealogies report this middle name as Melinda. They have no documentation or records for this, and I have not seen any reference to this middle name.

Robertson, John W 3mos M W born Feb 1870 Missouri
In most records Frances is reported as Frances M. But one record and some genealogies report her full name as Mary Frances.
In the 1900 census Frances is reported as the wife of Edmond Willis Briscoe in Bosque County, Texas, near Waco. Their last child here appears to be Dessie, and appears in 1910 as Dessix. This is clarified in his WWI draft registration where the name is Uberter Desiax. He signs it the same way, including the added R common in names and nouns in rural accents. So it appears "Dessie" was a nickname, short form for Desiax.

Notice that Frances' record says she has had three children, and yet four are in the home. I have no other indication that the first was not her child. This is corrected in the 1910 census, when it is reported she has had 4 children. They moved to the new state of Oklahoma after the birth of their son Dessie (Uberta Desiax) in late 1899 or early 1900. They are enumerated in the 1910 census in Tillman County, just over the Red River and little northwest of Wichita Falls, Wichita County, Texas.

It is reported here that Frances has borne 4 children and all of them are living. The marriage report is different from 1900 also. Their first child Herman was reported born in March 1885 and they were reported married for 16 years, making it about 1884 when they married. In 1910, however, they are reported married for 23 years, making it about 1887, the year reported in 1900 as the birth year of their second child Effie.
A report from family tradition indicates that Herman was the child of the first marriage, consistent with his reported birth date in 1885.

Francis Briscoe
I'm looking for information on Francis M Briscoe and came across the Source Citation for the 1910 Federal Census, Tillman County, OK in your tree where there's a transcript that states she was married to Edmond W Briscoe but says he's her 2nd husband. I believe, from what I have heard, this is true. Although I cannot find anything anywhere else to prove it. No prior marriage license, newspaper articles, death certificate.
I heard from my mom, who would have been her granddaughter, that her first husband was shot. Interesting, but I can't find anything on that and really not much on her. I know that marriage produced a son, Herman, who went by Briscoe (1881-1915). I have proof the last name was Johnson from a list of deaths in my grandfather wrote in his Bible. My grandfather was James Lester Briscoe (1892-1972) from her 2nd marriage.

---------------------
If the Briscoe marriage was in 1887, that woud mean that Effie was the first child of Frances with Edmond Briscoe. Her birth year in the 1900-census is reported as August 1887, so the marriage could have been in late 1886. Many times, also, the 1900 census was off a year on the birth year, so Effie may have actually been born in 1888, accommodating the reported date of the second marriage in 1887..

In 1934, I found Frances and Edmond in the San Francisco, California, City Directory. The directory does not report an occupation for Edmond. I don't know why they were in San Francisco.

At some point after the 1933 Mason City Directory, Edmond and Frances moved to Mason City into their son James' home. They are reported in the 1938 city directory. Then in 1939, Frances (Fannie) is reported as a widow. Edmond's death is reported in Mason City, Iowa, in 1939. I have not found any records of him between 1934 and 1938. In all the directories for Mason City, he is listed as though his name was Edward: Edw W.

In 1940, Frances is again listed in the Mason City, Iowa, City Directory. She is reported as a widow, which matches the information about Edmond's death in 1939 in Mason City. Her son James L and James' son Verlin A are in the directory. James and his wife are living at the same address. There is also a single female named Helen at Frances' address. I cannot identify Helen from previous information.
