The family Bible cited above reports the birth year as 1907. Social Security has 1907. One or more directory entries have the year as 1908 (see below) and that is the date of birth on the Find-a-Grave memorial, which has no photo of the gravestone.

In the 1930 census we learn that Eldon's other name is Millard, and he has chosen to go by that, even naming his son the same name. The order of the names has changed also, which I have found quite common in this era. Often the main name they choose to use is listed with the initial of the other name as the middle initial, even if that was the original first name.

I am the Great Granddaughter of George McSwain b.29 Sept, 1869, that married Julia Castleberry Gross.

My Grandfather was Eldon Millard (legal; Millard Eldon), B.30 July, 1907 and my Father was Millard Neal McSwain.

My Grandfather's personal Bible stated that George had 3 brothers; John, Charlie, and Russell

Sometimes we find Millard's names reversed. He went by Eldon, so sometimes his name is given as Eldon Millard, as on Marion Franklin's birth certificate above.
