Minnie Ann's grandmother Emily Meece applied for recognition by the Dawes Commission as a Choctaw Indian.
Dawes Commission Index, 1896
Case #67
Emily Quaid
Choctaw Tribe
The family was registered on an original Dawes Choctaw Card, but their application was rejected in 1896, and this was confirmed at several points in the process of developing the final rolls for the Nations. The rejection was likely based primarily on the fact that Emily's and the chidlren's registration states that the Chcotaw Blood Quantum percentage was unknown.
On the Dawes Choctaw card for Thomas and his children, the name of the second child is unreadable, with a middle initial N, age 15 in 1901. This birth order matches the Minnie Ann. The age is a couple of years off from the birth date reported on her grave, 14 Aug 1884. Minnie was the only girl between Thomas D D and Lee. Lee was registered separately on his own card.
