Notes

• In 1880, in her application for a military widow's pension, Jane declared that she and Alvis East married on Feb 4, 1846 in Clinton County, Iowa.  A record for Oklahoma, where they moved later,  report they were married, but includes no place or date.

  It appears that Alvis and Jane moved to Indian Territory, as there are graves for them both and two of their sons and one of the wives, in Chickasha, Oklahoma.  But there is also a burial plot with a military marker in Clarinda,  Page County, Iowa, where they lived and were enumerated int eh above censuses.  That military marker has no dates or places of birth or death.  The weight of fact seems to indicate that Alvis also moved with the family, but died soon afterward.
  
  He died in 1872, according to Jane's 1880 declaration.  She was living in Grayson County, Texas, just across the Red River, in 1880, for the census and her pension application, both in July 1880.  Some of the children lived in Oklahoma Territory or Chickasaw Nation.
