Notes

  • Thomas DD's grandmother Emily Meece applied for recognition by the Dawes Commission as a Choctaw Indian.

    Dawes Commission Index, 1896
    Case #67
    Emily Quaid
    Choctaw Tribe

The family was registered on an original 1896 Dawes Choctaw Card, but their application was rejected in 1896, and this was confirmed at several points in the process of developing the final rolls for the Nations.  This card appaers to be from 1901, bsed on the ages reported compared to the birth dates on their graves.Note that the likely impediment was the statement on Emily's and the children's registration stating that the Chcotaw Blood Quantum percentage was unknown.
