  His father's estate records in May 1893 reported Phillip C Owens as one of two minor children, aged "19 years last June (1892)."  Phillip's birth date on his grave, 23 July 1874, which should have made him 5 years old in 1880, insead of 4.

  Obituary of P E Owens
  
  In Memory of P E Owens
  
  On the evening of Feb 23 [no year stated, thought to be 1923; no publication date on the obit], the death angel visited the home of P E Owens, on Route 1, Blount Springs, and claimed the sprit of Mrs Owens [should be Mr Owens].  He was born July 23, 1874 being 48 Years and a few days old. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist church at New Bethel.  His remains were laid to rest in Mt Zion Cemetery [location not stated]. Rev Melvin Lewallen conducting the funeral services.  The deceased leaves his widow, six children, two of whom are married, also one brother, D L Owens, of Warrior, R 2.  Weep not, for our loss is heaven's gain.  He is through with the trials, troubles and sufferings of this world and gone to live in the home above, and while we are left to mourn we realize he has gone to join loved ones gone on before.
