Notes

  • Lunetta Compton was the first of three wives of William Buster Hill.  Her name and the name of the second wife were unknown to us until a new round of searching in November 2018 revealed the name of Nancy Sullins, found through a Social Security record reporting her and W B Hill as her parents.  Updated notes and reconfigured family relationships led to additional records, and shortly thereafter the name of an earlier wife named Lunetta Compton.

The 1880 census reported William with his wife Nancy, then after adding new information about John Briggs Hill, the oldest child found in that census, Briggs' mother was found, thanks to FamilySearch, where the family relationship and the marriage record for Lunetta Compton were found on 29 November 2018.

Some time before 1870, John and Cynthia Compton moved their family to north Texas, and were enumerated in the 1870 census in Fannin County.  The enumerator recorded Lunetta as Lou N, apparently hearing her name as a first and middle name, Lou Netta.

It was there in Fannin County that Lunetta married William Buster Hill.  She had one child, John Briggs Hill in 1875.  Her son was probalby named after her father, found in censues as John B Compton.  Lunetta died by 1878, since John's first child with his next wife, Nancy Sullins, was born in October 1879.
