Notes

  • The exact family relationship of Leon Garot to Adolph and CatherineGarot Girerd is uncertain.  From the age and other reported factors,Leon appears to be an older brother of Adolph.  In the 1910 census,Leon and his Belgium-born family are living next door to Adolph.  Thebirth places of the children indicate that, like Adolph and Catherine,Leon had immigrated first to Louisiana, then moved early in the 20thcentury to LaGrue, Arkansas County, Arkansas.  Other records documentthem in Louisiana from the time of immigration.

    Leon Garot
    Birth 14 Jul 1843 Belgium

Arrival in US 1884, port of arrival not reported
Date of Naturalization 8 Mar 1892
    Witnesses:
    John W Bailey
    P J Hanouvrier

Port records indicate they actually arrived in 1885, not 1884, asreported in this census.  The second entry in the ship's manifest forthe Garots seems to indicate the name is Charles, but the individualis reported as Female.  If this is Therese's husband, as we wouldthink, this seems to indicate that Leon's full name was Charles Leon.

It is not clear why Joseph would have been in the US a shorter timethan his parents and sister.  This must be an error related toenumerator math, and notice that the year of immigration is reportedas the same, 1884.  From the form of the daughter's name I wouldexpect that her real name, being from a French-speaking family, wasMilane as in 1910, not Malina as in 1900.  And I did find that ingenealogies carrying this Garot line, she was listed as Milane.  Noimmigration information is reported for any member of the household in1910.
