Notes

  • 1850 Federal Census, Itawamba County, Mississippi, 2 November, District 6, page 133 (scan 368), Hse #904, Fam #911
John Barnett 28 M Farmer  Georgia [born abt 1822]
Minerva Barnett 26 F South Carolina [born abt 1824]
    Lucinda K Barnett 5 F Mississippi [born abt 1845]

Lucinda's age varies considerably in the censuses.  She is 5 years old here, but is reported as 12 in 1860, a gain of only 7 years.  This means a variation in birth year from 1845 to 1848.  Lucinda does not appear in the 1970 census with the family.

Barnett, Minerva 38 F South Carolina [born abt 1822]
    Barnett, Lucinda C 12 F Mississippi [born abt 1848]

Note that Lucinda's middle initial varies from K to C.  This most likely indicates her middle name was Catherine, which many people spell Katherine.  I also found that Kay Harper has the middle name as Catherine, so I am spelling the name that way, following the 1860 census.

Catherine married Benjamin Franklin Rogers in Alcorn County, on 6 February 1868, according to Mississippi marrige records.

    Mississippi Marriages, 1776-1935
    B. T. [F] Rogers
    Spouse: Miss L. C. Barnett
Marriage 6 Feb 1868 Alcorn County

In the 1870 census, Katie is listed as Sattie C (transcribed on Ancestry as Satie).  I cannot make any connection of the strange form Sattie to her names Lucinda Catherine.  One researcher has suggested that the first name here should be Katie, but the initial letter is clearly an S and the writing is clear.  The name written here is clearly Sattie.  Besides, the middle initial C would be for for Catherine or Katherine, for which Katie is the nickname.  Could the enumerator have misheard Cindy, a short form of Lucinda?
