- There are some differences in the birth dates reported for John McSwain. All sources are agreed that he was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina. I am reporting the exact address that is reported on the Burial records for Antioch Baptist Cemetery, Cherokee County, South Carolina. The Hamrick Data Pages report December 1849, while the cemetery information is 29 October 1849. The source of the Hamrick date is not known. Others estimate from age in censuses.
The 1850 census says John was 10 months old. The census was taken 4 September, for a census date of 1 September. This would match the cemtery gravestone date . If he was born on 29 October 1849, then he would have been 10 months old on 29 August 1850.
