A couple of genealogies provide marriage info but do not include any documentation:  Marriage to Coley Parmer Hanson 19 Oct 1886 Claiborne Parish, Louisiana.  This information was used as the basis for a search for records.  This located the marriage index record.

Note that Coley and Mattie's first three sons were born in Arkansas, then the last two in Louisiana, and now they are back in Arkansas since the birth of Arch just 4 months before.  Hempstead County, Arkansas, borders Bossier Parish, Louisiana, on the north.  Hope is the Hempstead county seat.

Columbus' and James' mother is reported born in Indiana, indicating that Mattie is Coley's second wife.  John, Benjamin and Arch are Mattie's sons.  This corresponds to the difference in Coley and Mattie's ages.  This is further corroborated by the corrected error in Coley's record for the number of years married.

The enumerator first entered 19 years married (married in abt 1881), matching the first marriage, then corrected it to 13 years (married in abt 1887), matching Mattie's record.  Columbus' birth date is reported as Dec 1881, which would match a first marriage for Coley in early 1881 or late 1880.

Since John was also reported born in Arkansas, but in Sept 1889, this fits with a marriage in 1887.  Their actual marriage record says it was in October 1896.  Birth states of the children also indicates they they lived on the Arkansas side of the border.  Note also that it is reported that in that 10-year period Mattie has had 6 children, but only 3 are living.  This is consistent with the gap between the marriage and the birth of the first reported child, John, in Sept 1889.  The first child was born before John, but died before this 1900 census.

Various genealogies report they moved to McCurtain County, Oklahoma.

Their daughter Nellie's Social Security confirms this, reporting her born in Idabel, McCurtain County, Oklahoma, in October 1910.

The 1910 census reports them resident in McCurtian County, Oklahoma, just across the border with Arkansas.  Their youngest child Sallie is reported 3 years old, so born about 1906 or early 1907.  So they were in Oklahoma by 1905 or 1906.

This family has not been found in the 1920 census.  We know Mattie died before the 1930 census.  In 1930, Coley is reproted as a widower, and has two children remaining in his household, Nellie, age 19, and Dewey, age 17.  These appear to be the last children.  At the 1930 ages, Nellie was born abotut 1911 and Dewey about 1913.  Going by Dewey's age, we know Mattie lived until about 1913.

This 1930 census record led to the discovery of Dewey Hanson's death record.  This reports Dewey's exact birth date as 30 March 1913.  Dewey was living in Hugo, Oklahoma, when he died, and death occurred in Bonham, the county seat of Fannin County, Texas, across the border to the southwest.
