Notes

  • Fayette County, Pennsylvania Vital Records, 1750-1890
    Lowry, James Jr.
    Birth 1738 Ballynagorry, Ireland
    Father's Name James Lowry, Sr

Several genealogies report the birth year as 1733 instead of 1738.  They also report him as James Lowry or James Lowery, Jr from Ballynagorry, Ireland.  But they usually also report his father as Edmond Lowery.  If he is James Jr, his father is not Edmond Lowery/Lowry.

These details may refer to two different James Lowrys, whose information has been merged by the commonly uncareful genealogies we find.  I have shown James Lowery as born in 1738, following the Fayette County, Pennsylvania record that so many attach to his profile, with his father also named James Lowry/Lowery, to match his designation as Junior.  Further information may enable me to confirm the parental connection or separate two people named James Lowery.

The likelihood that there are two different family lines combined here seems supported by the presence of a tax record for a James Lowery Sr near James Lowery Jr in Franklin County, Georgie in 1807.  This indicates James Sr and James Jr as father and son in Franklin County.

The James whose father was Edmond may be in another county of Georgia (he died in Jasper County), and the record of birth in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, may not be for the James Lowry who married Polly Ann Wilkie.
