Notes
- Ron West provided the link to Mary West Rumera's genealogy of the West lineage. For George West, born ca 1776, she has a list of children. Her list lacks a George W West, thought by some West researchers to also be a son of George and his wife Colista McHanie.
----------------
GEORGE WEST (BENJAMIN, WILLIAM, JOSEPH P) was born 1776 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, and died 1859 in Gilmer County, Georgia. He married EDITH COLISTA MCHANIE Abt. 1797 in South Carolina. She was born Abt. 1778, and died Aft. 1850 in Gilmer County, Georgia.
Children of GEORGE WEST and EDITH MCHANIE are:
i. KENDRICK5 WEST.

Various sources reprot that Benjamin West was born in South Carolina. A listing in Spartanburg matches him for the 1840 census.

Note that the daughter Tipann is reported as Male. The child Ferdinand, age 6 in 1850, does not appear in the household in 1860.
In 1860, I find the family in Pickens County, with a Post Office of Jasper, but the location is Dug Road District. In notice that in the 1860 and 1870 census, one daughter's name is spelled as Francis, while in the 1850 census I found it spelled in the expected manner for a girl. A woman's name is normally spelled Frances. The child reported here as Columbus matches the child named Ferdinand in 1850.

In 1870, the family still have a Jasper P O address in Pickens County, but their location is not given on this page. We find that Benjamin West is a widower. I do not have a date of death for Elizabeth.

John L. West M W 11 Assisting on Farm b GA [son of Elmina]
Benjamin appears with no wife, so it appears that wife Elizabeth died before 1870. It appears also that Elmina is a widow with two children. I note that the first daughter's name is spelled as a man's name. This is likely an enumerator spelling error. We do find, however, that sometimes families spelled a woman's name as Francis.
In the 1880 census, Tripann and her family with Sanford Giffin Mullins are in Texas, along with his parents in the same household.
