Notes
- I learned about Henry Lowrey and his family when a McSwain cousin, Kenneth Wirt McSwain, sent me a genealogy prepared by his aunt Octavia, a daughter of Henry and Catherine Lowrey. This gave us the outline of several previous generations clarifying how the families Lowrey, Tilley and Wirt were combined in the lineage of the Lowreys in Arkansas County, Arkansas.
Octavia tells us that Henry Lowrey was born in 1800 in Shippensburg, Cumberland, Pennsylvania. He married Catherine Wirt Tilley, who was born 28 December 1806 in Bladensburg, Prince George's County, Maryland. They were married on 11 December 1838 in Ft Wayne, Indiana, by Rev M Rankin in the Presbyterian Church. Octavia says that Henry's residence at the time of the marriage was Williamsport, Warren County, Indiana.

The 1860 census reports Catherine's birth place as the District of Columbia, even though DC was created out of Prince George's County in 1791. Octavia reports that Henry Lowrey died on 19 August 1862 but the place was unknown by descendants. Catherine died in the late 1880s in Wewoka, Indian Territory (later Hughes County, Oklahoma).
