Notes

  • I find Owamie's name spelled several different ways.  Her gravestone has Owamie, so I have used that as the primary name here.  Bertie McSwain refers to her as Oamie, and this spelling is used by Sue Rownd in correspondence with me.

She appears as Owaimee or similar in a couple of censuses.  It is scrawled in different ways in three different censuses.  In 1910, she is listed with other children of Bert and Fannie Rownd in Prairie Township, Arkansas County, Arkansas.

Rownd, Fannie E  Wife F W 39  AR AL AL
Rownd, Owaimee  Dau F W 18  AR KS AR

In 1910 she is living with he sister Nona McSwain and her husband Bennie D, and Bennie Junior, in Little Rock.  In that entry it appears the first letter is an A rather than an O.  The enumerator appears to have written Awamie Round.

McSwain, Nona Wife F W 29 AR KS AR
Round, Awamie [Owaimee]  Sister-in-Law F W 18 AR KS AR

One oddity about the 1920 census is that Owaimee was enumerated twice.  Though she was counted in Little Rock, Arkansas, while there with Nona and Bennie, she was also included in the listing for her mother's household in Ethel, Arkansas County.  The census date for that year was 1 January, and that is the date of the enumeration in Little Rock.

However, they did not get around to actually taking the census in Ethel, Prairie Township, for the page recording the Rownd family, until 3 February.  It appears that during that time, Owaimee returned home, and was again counted.  The information given is identical, except for the difference of spelling of her name.  She is listed in Ethel as Owaimee.

A compilation reports Owamie's marriage, but gives no date.

    Arkansas, County Marriages Index, 1837-1957
    Owamie Rownd
    Spouse's Name: C E Noble

1930 Federal Census, Arkansas County, Arkansas, 3 April, DeWitt, District 16, page 2B, Hse #45, Fam #51
Noble, Charles E Head Renting house M W 35 First married at age 27 AR AR England Carpenter, housing industry
Noble, Owaime A Wife F W 28 First married at age 20 AR KS AR
Noble, Charles E Jr Son M W 7 AR AR AR
Cunningham, Jessie Niece F W 14 AR AR AR

This indicates that Charles E is 7 years old.  But we also see that Owamie was first married at age 26, just 2 years before this census.  On the other hand, Charles Sr was first married at age 27, 8 years ago.  Thus it appears that Charles was married before, and likely his first wife died.  Charles E would be a son from that first marriage.  I do not have the information on that wife. Also in their household we see a niece, Jessie Cunningham, age 14.  I have not yet figured out the family connections for this relationship.

But I note that in the 1910 census, Charley is a child, living with his parents next door to Chester Cunningham.  This would indicate a likelihood that Jessie is Chester and Laduskey's daughter.  Jessie was born in 1916.  That would mean that Charley's mother, Elizabeth, was either the sister of Chester Cunnigham or of his wife Laduskey.  I have not found enough details to clarify this.
