In 1860 Sarah and her husband are living next door to her parents James M and Susannah Strange.  Her husband's name we learn from a Strange family genealogy in World Family Tree, Pedigree 2932.  Sarah is married to Anderson Edmonds, who is listed in the census by his initials, as are all members of the family.

In 1870, the household matching this family lacks Anderson, and the mother of the children is reported as Mary J instead of Sarah E.  The absence of Anderson is matched in the 1880 census where Sarah is reported as a widow.  This Mary in 1870 may be some other individual, and the age is the same as Sarah's in 1860.  But I have not been able to identify any other family to match this household, and cannot account for a Mary as head of this househoild.  The children match the family of Anderson and Sarah Strange.  The last child Maston is William Maston, and is reported in different records variously under the first or middle name.

In 1880 Sarah is reported as a widow head of household, with three children at home with her on the farm.  From the ages of the children we can determine within a few months when Sarah's husband Anderson Edmonds died [or possibly is missing for other reasons].  The child Sarah is reported as 9 years old, and not reported in the 1870 census, so she was born sometime after June (1880 census date) in 1870.  Her father is not reported in the 1870 census, so he had to die before July 1870.  His death had to be nine months of less before 1 July, because Sarah was born after the census date in 1870.

No death or burial information has been found for Sarah's husband.  Edmonds researcher Shirley believes that though Sarah is reported as a widow, Brice Anderson did not die, but moved away and later married someone else.  Documentation for this scenario is also elusive.

"I'm looking for help with his [William Maston Edmond's] father, Brice Anderson Edmonds, last seen in Jefferson in 1865 when signing affidavit in support of Anne EDMONDS Phillips' application for widow's benefits for late husband Jeremiah. I'm trying to prove he didn't die in Jefferson but next appears in 1873 in Hamilton marrying Margaret Shipley. Last seen on 1900 census. All help appreciated. Thanks. Shirley SSBOSCOAOL.COM"
