In the 1920 census I found Amanda and her husband James L Briscoe, along with there three children, in the household of Amanda's parents. They were in Musselshell County, Montana.

There was a second enumeration of Amanda and her family, in their old residence of Frederick, Oklahoma, 28 days before the one in Montana. I cannot account for all the factors to make complete sense of this situation. The had been living in Montana since about 1916, based on Carmen's age of 2 years 8 months in the Oklahoma census. They may have been back for a visit or some business, however, they are reported in a rented residence, not int he home of relatives or a hotel.

They were back in their Frederick, Oklahoma, location by the 1930 census. Not long after that they moved to Amanda's home state of Iowa. The details of this census report fill in some interesting details of the interim years.
Their 4th child Helen is age 9 here and was born in Montana. The last child Bernard is age 4 and was born in Minnesota. This tells us they moved from Montana to Minnesota between 1921 and 1926. I found that Amanda's mother died in Waseca County, Minnesota in 1927. So they moved with her parents from Montana to Minnesota, then moved back to Oklahoma some time between 1927 and 1930. I have not found her father's place or date of birth. I expect it was before Nancy died.

In several records Amanda is listed as Amanda E. This is probably for Ella, a nickname/short form of her given middle name of Luella.

Amanda and James moved to California later in life. They both died in Contra Costa County. Amanda's California death record provides her mother's maiden name, missing so far from all other records I had found. This record also finally provides her exact birth date.

At the same time, I also found Amanda's Iowa birth record. This record is the first I have seen that provides Amanda's full middle name, Luella. All the city directories and censuses with a middle initial have Amanda E. I suspect that the middle initial E is for Ella, a nickname or short form for her full middle name.
