Notes
- Georgia Marriages to 1850
Elizabeth C. Wood
Embargo C. Lane
Marriage 13 Mar 1831 Jackson County, Georgia
Embargo C Lane was born in Georgia, as was his wife Eliza. They lived in Alabama for a short time, where their son Robert was born in about 1837. Assuming Robert was their first child, we can guess they were married about 1836, most likely in Georgia. Since he named one son Columbus, perhaps Embargo's middle initial C stands for the name Columbus.
Elizabeth and her husband Embargo moved their family to Texas from Alabama after the birth of Robert in about 1839 and were in Texas before the birth of Embargo Junior in about 1843. Columbus and Elizabeth were enumerated in Panola County, Texas, for the 1860 census when their baby Columbus Lafayette was 4 months of age.

In 1870 elizabeth and Enbargo are in Hopkins County, Texas, where they are enumerated twice 10 days apart, with different neighbors. Apparently they had two different farmsteads. Note the differences in teh ages and names of the children, even thought he same enumerator took the census both times. Their last son Columbus Lafayette is listed once udner each name.
