Notes
- Mary S Gibson was the oldest child we have record of from the marriage of Sarah Morgan to Charles S Gibson. She is recorded with her parents in the 1850 census in Washington County, Illinois.

Gibson, Charles 38 M Laborer born Unknown
Gibson, Sarah J 24 F born MO
Gibson, Mary S 9 F born IL
She was already married with a family in 1860. It appears that the person recorded as Joseph was her husband known as Joshua from family information found in Pugh genealogies. The details match otherwise with Joshua and Mary (Gibson) Pugh. Perhaps his name was Joshua Joseph, or the enumerator might have simply made an error in recording the name Joshua.

Joshua and Mary had another daughter in about 1863-64, named Ella. We find her in her grandparents home in Hill County, Texas, which would seem to indicate that both her parents had died before the 1880 census. Ella was also born in Illinois as were her older siblings reported in the 1860 census. It is possible her parents had already moved to Texas before their death. The first Pugh genealogy I found on this family does not have death dates or places for either Joshua or Mary.
A few days later I found another genealogy with good detail on many of this family, including the information that Joshua and Mary were divorced. This genealogy states that several relatives had sworn that the couple had divorced, but the records were destroyed in a fire. This researcher does not provide a date for the divorce.
"There are several affiants from brother David C Pugh and sister Leah Martel that they were divorced and that the records were burned in a courthouse fire."

This family tree also provides information on two later marriages of Joshua, one in Illinois and the other in Texas, not long before he died of consumption in 1886. See these details in the Notes for Joshua B Pugh.
I find no record of Mary S (Gibson) Pugh after the 1860 census. We find the third daughter Ella in the 1880 census where she is still single and living with her grandmother and stepgrandfather in Hill County, Texas.
