Thomas Plantagenet was the eldest son of Edmund Crouchback, 1st Earl of Lancaster and Blanche of Artois. His paternal grandparents were Henry III of England and Eleanor of Provence. His maternal grandparents were Robert I of Artois and Matilda of Brabant, who was a daughter of Henry II, Duke of Brabant. ... Thomas was executed by King Edward III for treason. His brother Henry was in no way implicated nor suspected in Thomas' plot. Henry kept one of the family titles, Earl of Leicester (1324). Henry later, however, joined in another rebellion against King Edward. He joined Queen Isabella and Roger Mortimer when they returned from France to depose Edward.
